Prolonged stress exposure leads to the Distress Zone, where the nervous system becomes hypersensitive, causing anxiety and overwhelm. It becomes difficult to take rational decision and in extreme cases it could lead to panic, where we have very little control over the situation.
After weeks in the Distress Zone, the nervous system shuts down, leading to the Burnout Zone, characterized by loss of mental energy, motivation, and cognitive function.
